NextGen Nursery
Indigenous and water-wise plants, propagated from seed and cuttings in the Overberg — grown for developments, landscapers and gardeners who want plants that belong here, backed by the team that keeps them thriving after planting.
Grown for the
gardens of the Cape.
The Western Cape is moving — by preference and by necessity — towards indigenous, water-wise planting. Municipalities specify it, developments are designed around it, and gardeners have learned what a dry February does to a thirsty exotic border.
Supply has not kept up. Certified indigenous stock — fynbos shrubs and proteoids, restios and groundcovers, keurbooms and other Cape trees — remains hard to source at consistent quality and volume. That is the gap the nursery is built to fill.
Fynbos propagation is technical work. Many species germinate only after smoke treatment or a specific run of cold nights; others strike best from cuttings under mist. We do that work on site, from mist bench to hardening-off, so a species list can be grown to order rather than hunted for.
Anchored by
De Zandt.
The nursery's anchor is a long-term partnership with De Zandt, a premium residential development in Hermanus delivered in phases over roughly a decade. NextGen Plants is its preferred plant supplier — propagating the indigenous, water-wise palette for each phase's streetscapes, communal gardens and green open spaces — and holds the garden maintenance contract for completed phases.
Phase orders are confirmed months in advance, which lets us schedule propagation precisely instead of speculatively. The same discipline carries into the maintenance work: irrigation management, seasonal replanting and plant health, reported on quarter by quarter.
The public gets the benefit of that engine. The same species grown for De Zandt are available to households, landscapers and garden centres — from the farm on open days, and online through NextGen Direct for delivery or collection.
